The Scheme was introduced in Haryana Region, while it was part of composite state of Punjab with its Regional Office at Chandigarh.
The scheme was launched on 17th May, 1953 initially covering 20,000 employees and 100 employers, at three major centers of Bhiwani, Jagadhari and Ambala at that time. Haryana Region was carved out of the Punjab Region on 1st April, 1982 and then shifted its Regional Office at Faridabad in year 1984.
The Scheme has presently extended to whole Districts of Haryana state, covering about 30 lakh employees working with twenty six thousand employers. There are Seventy two dispensaries and four ESI hospitals run by State Government and besides this Three Hospitals and one medical college run by the ESI Corporation.
Haryana Region has further entered into an tie up arrangement with reputed hospitals of the state to provide super specialty treatment to the beneficiaries and their dependents. ESI Corporation has further set up two Sub Regional Office, at Gurgoan & Ambala 19 Branch Offices to facilitate & distribute cash benefits to Insured persons.
As on 31st March 2018, approved no. of IPs in the State of Haryana are 29,44,330.
